United Nations Environment Programme

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is the UN's leading body on environmental policy, working to unite nations around a shared reality: environmental degradation does not respect borders, and its effects are felt globally regardless of where the damage originates. This principle led to the creation of UNEP in 1972, a forum where nations can work together to form guidelines that solve these environmental issues, while allowing for national sovereignty and continued economic development. Delegates in this UNEP simulation will craft policy recommendations to address the world's most pressing environmental challenges, while grappling with the geopolitical inequalities that complicate international environmental cooperation, from unequal historical responsibility for emissions to disparities in resources for climate adaptation.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Rahul Nimmagaddasai (He/Him) is a 2nd-year Finance Student with Minors in Computer Science and Chinese. This will be his 5th year in Model UN, since he started in his sophomore year of High School. This will be his first time directing a committee at SwampMUN. Outside of MUN, he loves to learn about history, manage his stock portfolio, and loves to read. Most importantly, he is very excited to direct this committee for SwampMUN!
